Understanding the YWL Experience
“Preparing tomorrow’s future, today.”
Young World Leaders offers international students the opportunity to explore the United States while focusing on cultural and language immersion, academic preparation, and leadership development.
Our programs emphasize several important areas of focus for international students planning on studying abroad or interested in attending an English-speaking college or university.
Each Young World Leaders program focuses on:
LEARNING AND DEVELOPING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS
– English Language Program (ESL) participants develop confidence in speaking and interacting through engaging native speakers in real-world situations.
CULTURAL TRIPS AND ACTIVITIES
– Students will be so excited to take cultural trips to New York City, Washington D.C., the National Air and Space Museum, and so much more!
COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PREPARATION
– The best education experts and resources, including resume workshops, mock interviews and SAT and TOEFL exam preparation.
– Students deepen their understanding of global issues and confront next-generation challenges in courses like Leadership in the Global Community and Civic Advocacy and Social Entrepreneurship.
Today, the world needs young leaders who have vision, confidence, and a rich understanding of the diverse cultures within our global landscape. In recognizing this need, Young World Leaders offers international students the opportunity to learn leadership skills and English language skills through practical experience and cultural immersion. Our students are taught by members of the Sandy Spring Friends School community and by scholars from premier colleges and universities. Combining their efforts with those of trained and experienced counselors, the instructors create a rich academic experience for our students.
As an integral part of our experience, Young World Leaders students engage in a comprehensive academic program that covers global leadership training, college preparation, and the improvement of English language skills.
Please note that class attendance is mandatory. A student who misses multiple classes due to unexcused absences can be dismissed from the program. Students are expected to engage seriously in their courses through both class participation and completion of assigned work. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
